Over I.M. Dog, Star

De titel ‘I.M.

In recent years the emphasis within the works of Alexandra Crouwers shifted from large scale (mural) drawings in which animations were often integrated, to video. In her latest work 3D animation, video compositing and special effects merge into an extension of Crouwers’ multi-layered work.
This multilayered aspect emerges in the numerous links to archaic symbolism, cinema, obscure conspiracies and apocalyptic myths, but also in the references to working in a virtual environment in which the computer is percieved as a digital studio. It creates a remarkable contrast between an instinctive assembly of topics and the use of high-tech media.
Crouwers will present a five screen video installation, five prints and a publication with a short story, which is produced in a limited edition in addition to the exhibition.
During the opening Perte Totale Operations, a fluid collective revolving around poet Antoine Boute, will perform. The crew consists out of an interchanging constellation of musicians, guests and a vj (Alexandra Crouwers). For this occasion Mauro Pawlowski and JP de Gheest will flank Boute.

About I.M. Dog, Star
The title ‘I.M. Dog Star ‘refers to the star Sirius, which can be linked to the inherent symbolism of the ancient Egyptian mythology and the so-called ‘Illuminati ‘. ‘I. M.’ can of course be read as ‘I am’.
The five projections sometimes show an interior, and sometimes nothing but a framework. The images seem to be “drifting” as if they were lacking solid ground. This vacuum is emphasized by the use of chroma-key blue areas – in places where the spectator should expect a view through a window, only a blue emptyness is shown.
On another level, the images can be percieved as dioramas or haunted houses and suggest those derive from different ‘realities’, universes or points in time, that seem to be merging into eachother. The fluid and unsteady nature of the explicitly pre-modernistic images contrasts the solid computer engineering behind it.
